Handmade Happiness: Create Stunning DIY Watercolor Valentines Cards for Friends and Loved Ones!
Materials:- Professional Watercolor Paints (Yes! Quality makes a difference! We love QOR and Holbein brands) Get a variety of pinks and colors that compliment them: Shell Pink and Rose Madder for sure! Then maybe a light blue, violet, and gray.
- Cold-Pressed Watercolor Cards and Envelopes. Strathmore makes a decent one, or you can cut down your own watercolor paper to 4x6 or 5x7 (folded in half.)
- A Medium Aquash Brushpen or at least 2 Professional Watercolor Brushes. Jack Richeson Series 9000 is a solid beginner choice. We recommend #3 and #5 rounds. Just please don't use those cheap brushes that come in a set for a few bucks.
- Pencil, Eraser, and Archival India Ink Pen, either .3 or .5. Most people like Micron but I prefer Molotow.
Steps:- Start by drawing out your image. If you need inspiration, search "Watercolor Valentines Cards" on Pinterest or even Etsy. Its best to create a simple design with a cute color scheme.
- If you like the look of outlines, trace over your design with your Archival Ink Pen, then erase the pencil marks with your eraser.
- Starting with your lightest watercolor, fill in your design. Slowly build layers with darker and darker shades. Wait for one color to dry before adding another color next to it.
- Once your mini-painting is dry, go back in with details using your smallest paintbrush or your pen.
- On the inside of the card, write a sweet message to your friend or loved one!
- Sign, Seal, and Deliver!
