5 Surprising Ways to Unlock your Creativity

September 06, 2023

I remember writing my college admissions essay about how humans become less and less creative with age. Although I still have the same beliefs, I've also made it my career to prove otherwise. One of the reasons I'm so committed to sharing my Watercolor Kits with the world, is because there are so many mental-health benefits to them! It relaxes the nervous system, inspires new thinking, makes you a better problem solver, and boost your mood! I know everyone is capable of being creative, it just requires practice! Here are some different ways you can exercise the right side of your brain to unlock your creative potential!

Creative Craft Kits for Adults
  1. Try a craft kit! This doesn't have to be one of my brands Watercolor Kits! Just search Etsy and you'll find so many options like Embroidery Kits, Candle Making, Macrame, and Pressed Flowers!

  2. Unplug everything and go for a walk! The unplugging part is super important and that means music too! When was the last time you went for a walk or a hike without music distracting you? Allow your mind to wander, take in all the scents and sounds, give yourself an opportunity to relax all your senses.

  3. Ask "Why" questions! Remember when you were a kid and went through your why phase? It went something like this: "Mom, whats for dinner?" And she'll say, "Spaghetti and broccoli." Then you'd ask "Why" and she'd say, "Because its good for you." "Why," You'd ask again. "Because your body needs protein, carbs, and fiber." You'd continue asking why until there are no further answers... that's the point in which exploration begins. You can hypothesize or make up a story to explain things. That's creativity right there!

  4. Change your environment! A great way to refresh your mind is to change your space. Maybe that means going to a new coffee shop and working there for a few hours. Maybe it means you rearrange your furniture. Either way, you'll end up discovering new patterns and connections between items that may inspire you!

  5. Journal. You've probably heard this one before, but journaling is an incredibly useful tool to organize your thoughts. While you're doing this, write down any thought that comes to your mind, it does not have to be linear or make sense. Doodle on the sides or create a mind map! The point is- don't limit yourself when you're putting pen to paper. Allow yourself the freedom of expression.

Creativity can be so healing and positive for the soul. I really hope these tips help you become the best version of yourself!
